Blessed Birthday

I turned 21 this past summer and wanted to celebrate in a special way!  Instead of going out drinking, I chose to have a church service with my closest friends and family. My 'Blessed Birthday" turned out to be one of my favorite events that I've ever planned. We met at this beautiful chapel in Montgomery Bell State Park. I asked my talented cousins to lead us in worship songs and my uncle preached a small sermon. After the worship service, we headed to a nearby pavilion for snacks and cake. I used a rustic and lavender theme to decorate the space. I created mason jar center pieces with lavender flowers. I also incorporated touches of faith and scripture to tie the event theme together.

Special Events

As a sophomore, I helped start a Love Your Melon Campus Crew at Austin Peay. Love Your Melon is an apparel brand who works to improve the lives of children battling cancer. Our campus crew promotes Love Your Melon and spreads awareness about childhood cancer. We also had the opportunity to plan a Superhero Adventure for Harper, a local child battling cancer.

Harper and his twin brother love to play outside when he is feeling well. Our crew planned an afternoon of fun at the park full of superhero games and snacks. I helped plan the Superhero Adventure and served as the contact person. My job was to communicate with Harper's family before, during and after the event.

My Advanced Event Planning class was tasked with creating, planning, and coordinating our own special event. As a group, we decided to plan Retail Therapy a pop-up shop and fashion show of local boutiques. We named the event 'Retail Therapy.' Twelve different vendors set-up shop in our university ballroom and took part in a fashion show. The event was open to the public and we had about 100 attendees.

I learned much about planning events as a group. Our class worked on all details together, but group members were delegated certain tasks. Then we would come together for collaboration. I was specifically in charge of marketing the event via social media.
